Earth to Chris Daughtry

Chris DaughtryCan someone please tell Chris Daughtry that he has no cred and is no different than Clay Aiken, Blake Lewis or the other American Idol non-winners? With quote like this, I’m sure he could use a reminder:

“I feel like it’s definitely lacking some credibility at this point, It’s in a state of decline and if they don’t do something about it, it’s probably not gonna last too much longer. I’m sure that’ll be used against me, but that’s the truth, you know?”

Has American Idol EVER had credibility?

Regardless, the new season kicks off tonight, so be prepared for the constant onslaught for the next few months.

American Idol Butchers Modest Mouse

A little piece of me died inside last night when I saw this on television.

I guess the only saving grace I have is that it wasn’t a Smashing Pumpkins cover. (yet?!)

Guilty Pleasure - 2007 Style

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

I hated Katharine McPhee when she was on American Idol. I thought her voice was decent, but certainly not even close to the best. Her rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was an obvious ploy to rip-off idol praise of past with a “gutsy” acapella performance, and her take on K. T. Tunstall’s hit “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” was beyond awkward. She lacked all of those star qualities that most winners seem to have, and by most I don’t mean Justin Guarini.

Well, Katharine’s time to cash in on her idol success is here with her debut self-titled album out in stores this week. Gone is the shy, awkward-bodied Katharine we saw on TV and replaced is a sexed-up, naughty girl-next-door look that while obviously maladroit looking, is much more pleasing to look at.

When I saw she was on Leno the other night, I decided to have a peek at what Idol’s latest processed creation was going to offer. I was pleasantly surprised to see just how hot she looked with her little dress and black tights that I watched the whole performance. Oddly enough, I found the song she sang, her first single “Over It,” didn’t suck like Chris Daughtry’s first single; it was actually quite pleasant.

After hunting down the web to find a video of the performance, (mainly to see if she really looked as hot as I remembered, or if I was just a little sleep-drunk), I found myself really digging the song. In fact, I really love the song.

Don’t get me wrong. Ms. McPhee’s album will never be purchased by me, nor do I see it having anything more than a snowball’s chance in Hell of being something I’d ever consider on a “best of” list, but “Over It” is a catchy, very well-written song. Have a peek yourself and perhaps you’ll see what I’m talking about. At the very least, you can see a few minutes of a hot girl on stage. (Oh, and she looks even better in Hi-Def!)
