The new Killers single, Human, went on sale today. It is hands-down the best Killer’s song I’ve heard since their debut album Hot Fuss. If this is a fair representation as to what their forthcoming Day & Age, released November 25th, has to offer, I am very excited.
Nikki Sixx’s critically acclaimed book “The Heroin Diaries” is s a collection of diary entries written between Christmas of 1986 and Christmas of 1987 chronicling Sixx’s wild lifestyle, drug addiction and other crazy tomfoolery during the height of his success with Mötley Crüe. The book features amazing black-and-white photographs, lyrics, random thoughts and artwork and is a must-read for any true rock ‘n’ roll fanatic.
To celebrate the paperback release, Nikki’s band Sixx A.M. has recorded an album of music inspired by the book and is giving away a free download of the track “Tomorrow.” Head on over here to download it and learn more about the book & album.
Every friday, AmazonMP3 has a “5 albums for $5 each” deal. There’s usually something decent in the list, but more often than not the decent record is something I already own. This happens to be the case with this week as well with Sigur Rós‘ Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust. This is hands down one of the best albums of the year and I would be doing a disservice if I didn’t alert the music-buying public of this offer.
Here’s a great video of the band performing Gobbledigook live with Björk…
It’s about time The Smashing Pumpkins have made their way back to New York, which means I won’t have to schlep my ass over to Philly to see them. The band announced their 20th Anniversary Tour Dates yesterday and it includes two shows in NYC.
In typical Billy & co. fashion, the cities with back-to-back shows are getting cryptic names and promises of “no repeats.” In an attempt to clear any confusion up, the band posted this message on their blog:
Those of you that may have seen either the press release or any info out there about the tour may find yourself scratching your head a bit about the shows format. We tried to keep it simple but as is our custom, its just not always that simple!! SO I thought I would post up some additional info to make sure that there was absolute clarity about what shows would be going on where-when.
First off, the 2 night format is about playing the most songs over 2 nights that would hopefully create very distinct shows from one another. No song will be repeated means exactly as it sounds, if you go to show #1 of a 2 night stand (black sunshine!), you wouldn’t hear anything on night # 2 (white crosses) that you heard song-wise on the first night.
The cities where we are playing only 1 show will feature an amalgamated show that will most likely have some songs we won’t be playing in the 2 night format shows, but take from both the sunshine and the crosses show. Get it? I hope so…cause its a lot for us to digest as well.
Below is a list of shows, where I’ll highlight just for overkill what show will be taking place:
Sunshine, Cross, or SS (special show for the one offs)
# Sat 11/1 Cleveland, OH Palace Theatre (SS)
# Mon 11/3 Toronto, ONT Massey Hall (sunshine)

# Sun 11/16 Uncasville, CT Mohegan Sun Arena (SS)
# Tue 11/18 Chicago, IL Chicago Theatre (sunshine)
# Wed 11/19 Chicago, IL Chicago Theatre (crosses)

I will be going to both nights (of course), but that means I need to get rid of (i.e. sell) my Louis CK tickets for 11/6. Anyone interested, hit me up!
To hold you over, enjoy a kick ass video of one of my favorite SP songs, “Home.”
I’ve been loving the Glasvegas record for the past few weeks. Lately everything I hear from Scotland these days kicks some major ass. Between Frightened Rabbit, The Twilight Sad and now Glasvegas, Scotland has been representing the indie scene hardcore!
Check out their video for Geraldine and prepare to hear a lot more about this band as their self-titled record will be released in the US digitally on October 7th.
Ill Lit is one of the most overlooked bands of this decade. 2004’s I Need You was hands-down from start-to-finish one of the best albums of the year, yet sadly most people never heard it.
You can hear a great snippet of “Fix It” from the forthcoming Ryan Adams and The Cardinals album Cardinologyhere. Very throwback sound with a wonderfully catchy chorus. I can’t wait to hear the entire album, which is released on October 28th.
