Silversun Pickups new album Swoon is today’s AmazonMP3 deal of the day. For $3.99 you can buy the entire album in DRM-free mp3 format.
I’ve been listening to Swoon for a few weeks now and it’s fantastic. Fans of Silversun Pickups prior albums should embrace this with open arms. (Even if the first time they heard of the band was through Rock Band!)
“Big Whiskey…“, produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Alanis Morissette) will be released on June 2nd (RCA) and will be the first studio album since 1998′s Before These Crowded Streets to feature the über-talented Tim Reynolds. Passion Pit have been forced to cancel their May UK tour dates due to “personal issues at home” which has them unable to travel outside of the US for the time being. According to a representative of the band, they fully intend to make up the dates at a later time.

In more positive news, Passion Pit have announced that their official website has launched today. That means no more heading over to MySpace for the latest info! (Trust me, that’s a good thing.)

Ask any long-time Jimmy Eat World fan about Clarity and they will tell you just how important the album is in the history of the band. For many fans, it was the record that made them fall in love with the Jimmy Eat World; that is the case for me. From the first time I heard such classics as “Lucky Denver Mint,” “For Me This is Heaven,” and “Just Watch the Fireworks,” I knew I was listening to something special.
There are so many garbage bands today that get tagged as “emo” that it has ruined the genre and completely taken it away from the phenominal artists that pioneered the sound. Jimmy Eat World is one of those artists. They proved that it was possible to mix aggressive guitars over lush melodies and heartfelt lyrics and create something so fresh and accessible.
To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the seminal album, Jimmy Eat World embarked on a tour around the US playing the entire album from start to finish. Today, they have released a digital-only live album recorded during the tour’s final night in Tempe, AZ titled Clarity Live.
Clarity Live is available for $8.99 and comes in your choices of one of five download options: 320k MP3, Apple Lossless, FLAC, 16bit and 24bit WAV. Also included are two encore tracks, “What I Would Say To You Now” and “No Sensitivity,” as well as a digital booklet with tour photos and two high-res photos of the band.
This album is a must-own for any Jimmy Eat World fan. They have replicated the beauty of Clarity impeccably live and if you loved the original, you will fall in love with it all over again.
Great Northernhave announced that they will be touring with The Dears in support of their fantastic new album Remind Me Where the Light Is, available April 28th on Eenie Meenie. The duo of Solon Bixler and Rachel Stolte talk about the difference in the new record in comparison to their critically acclaimed Trading Twilight for Daylight:
“We took a lot more risks by entering uncomfortable territory that wasn’t touched on the last record,” Bixler says. “We dug deeper into the unpleasant, which helped us to find the beauty.”
Bixler and Stolte tapped producers Michael Patterson (Beck, BRMC) and Nic Jodoin for Remind Me Where the Light Is which has resulted in an album which features the back and forth vocal styling reminiscent of Mates of State with a more layered, guitar and orchestral-driven sound.

For those of you not into the vinyl revolution, a digital release will be forthcoming in the following weeks.
If you can’t make it out to any of the Mate of State / Black Kids tour dates, fear not – NPR will be webcasting and archiving the DC show this Saturday at the 9:30 Club.

Lastly, if you can’t get enough of Mates of State (like me), you can follow Jason on Twitter.
Apparently, I’ve been living under a rock. The grapevine just alerted me to the fact that Chicago’s Red Red Meat played at SXSW to celebrate the reissue of one of my Top 10 records of all time, Bunny Gets Paid. Sparing you all the biographic detailing, this Chicago bluesy rock-outfit is a staple in my music listening rotation. The band officially disbanded in 1997 and the members went off to form Califone and Sin Ropas while Brian Deck (drummer/producer) became a full-time music producer.
The deluxe edition of Bunny Gets Paid serves up two discs of remastered tracks, demos, single version, B-sides and more.
Admittedly, I am no audiophile, but on first listen the jangly nuisances and gritty guitars ring crystal clear. The dismantled arrangements and singer Tim Rutili’s creeping vocals should give every reason to discover Red Red Meat. The cover of Low’s “Words†was also a nice surprise. When picking up this reissue, you should also snag the underrated 1997’s There’s a Star Above the Manger Tonight.
If you click on the Amazon widget below, you can download a free MP3 of the track “Gauze.”
Everyone’s favorite former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus, recently recorded a few songs for Daytrotter, including my all-time personal favorite “Vanessa From Queens.” Also available for download is the previously unreleased “Funk 49.” Go download these now!
The first track off Bob Dylan’s new album Together Through Life, has been posted as a free MP3 download on BobDylan.com. ”Beyond Here Lies Nothin’” will only be up until midnight tomorrow (March 31), so grab it quickly!
Together Through Life releases April 28th on Columbia Records.
AmazonMP3 has a nice collection of totally free indie music samplers for download. Included in the promotion are compilations from Sub Pop, Secretly Canadian, Saddle Creek, Arts & Crafts and many more. As is usual with AmazonMP3, all songs are high quality DRM-free files.
Silversun Pickups will be releasing their new album Swoon on April 14th (Dangerbird Records). The band is fresh off a visit to SXSW where they debuted some of the new songs to crowds with rave reviews.
“Panic Switch,” the first single off Swoon, can be streamed at iMeem or MySpace.
Below is a video released by the gang to add to the anticipation of what is sure to be another great Silversun Pickups album!
