Head on over to Sigur Rós‘ official site to download a free, high-quality mp3 of the new song “Gobbledigook” and view the video from their forthcoming new album.
The song is unlike the typical Sigur Rós I’ve come to adore, but it’s still a wonderful track. Needless to say, this is one of my most highly anticipated albums of 2008.
Seriously, the new Regina Spektor song from the Narnia movie is album only?!?! It’s not just iTunes, it’s this way on AmazonMP3.com. Obviously Disney knows that most people don’t want the other throwaway shit on this album and expect me to pay $8 for one song? Um, no thanks.
Re-Arrange Us, the latest masterpiece from Mates of State is officially released today. Do whatever you need to in order to get a copy of this album because it’s phenomenal.
Here is the video from the first single, “Get Better.”
The Cure (AKA one of the best bands in the world) will be releasing a new single on the 13th of every month leading up to their new album on September 13th. The as-of-yet untitled record will be their 13th effort and the first single, “The Only One” was released today. Head on over to thecure.com to stream it and buy it on iTunes.
As a side-note, the B-side is also available on iTunes, but it’s kind of hidden. Buy it here.
Last night on Conan, one of my all-time favorite bands, Yo La Tengo, served as the backing band for She & Him, probably one of my most listened to albums of 2008, to create the ultimate viewing experience. I’ll post a higher-quality video as soon as it pops it’s little self up on Hulu, but in the meantime here’s a YouTube clip. You can also view it directly at NBC.com here.
I absolutely adore Scotland-based band Frightened Rabbit. Their debut album Sing the Greys was fantastic and one of 2007’s best (and most sadly overlooked) albums. As is the case with many artists, the sophomore record can really separate the good bands from the great bands. Frightened Rabbit’s new album, The Midnight Organ Fight, is a complete masterpiece and has carved out a spot for these guys in my all-time favorite bands category.
This band has literally created two albums in which I don’t just like, but love every single song. From the first listen of The Midnight Organ Fight I knew this was going to be one of those special albums that will remain a staple of my music collection for the rest of my life. These guys are special bunch and once the secret gets out and the masses hear this band, they are going to be the next big thing, and deservingly so.
To just pick one song to showcase how amazing these guys are is a virtually impossible feat, so I’ll pick three. If you like what you hear I urge you to pick up a copy of both albums as they are as consistently good as the tracks below.

“Good Arms vs. Bad Arms”
Check out the track “Black Party Hats” by Lexington, Kentucky-based band Bedtime. I recently received a copy of their self-titled album and have been really digging it. Keep your eyes out for them, I think they’re very promising…
