[From the Archives] Ill Lit - Broken Open Fence

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Ill Lit is one of the most overlooked bands of this decade. 2004’s I Need You was hands-down from start-to-finish one of the best albums of the year, yet sadly most people never heard it.

“Fix It” – Ryan Adams

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

You can hear a great snippet of “Fix It” from the forthcoming Ryan Adams and The Cardinals album Cardinology here. Very throwback sound with a wonderfully catchy chorus. I can’t wait to hear the entire album, which is released on October 28th.

The Smashing Pumpkins – If All Goes Wrong

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

It’s that time of the year again; time for some new Smashing Pumpkins news. This edition comes on the heels of the announcement of a 271 minute Documentary/Concert DVD titled If All Goes Wrong. From SP’s official website…

Coming Home Media will release If All Goes Wrong, a double DVD commemorative package celebrating the recent reunion and extraordinary 20-year career of The Smashing Pumpkins, one of rock’s defining and most acclaimed bands, on Nov. 11th.

Directed and produced by Jack Gulick (Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Steve Miller Band, Godsmack) and Daniel E Catullo III (Steve Miller Band, Godsmack, Rush, Dave Matthews Band), the two DVD set contains the 105-minute documentary, also titled If All Goes Wrong, plus The Fillmore Residency, a full concert filmed in late July and early August of 2007 over five of the 11 sold-out nights at the famed Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, CA.

The concert disc was captured in 5.1 Surround Sound and state-of-the-art high definition from 12 cameras and features seven all new tracks not available anywhere else, along with new versions of fan favorites and a selection of Pumpkins rarities.

Amazon is taking pre-orders for the low price of $14.99. Pre-order your copy here.

1. Underneath the Stars
2. The Only One
3. Underneath the Stars

Originally planned as a double album, Robert Smith confirmed on tour that 4:13 Dream will be just a single album, despite the recording of 33 songs for the project. Here’s to hoping we get some kick-ass b-sides!

[From the Archives] - The Appleseed Cast - “How Life Can Turn”

Friday, September 12th, 2008

My favorite song off the incredible concept album Two Conversations [2003] by The Appleseed Cast.

The Streets - Everything Is Borrowed

Friday, September 12th, 2008

As anyone that reads this blog will know, I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Everything Is Borrowed, the latest record by The Streets. I’ve had my hands on it for a few days now and can excitedly say that it absolutely lives up to the (my) hype.

From start to finish, Everything Is Borrowed is easily the most cohesive album from Mike Skinner since Original Pirate Material.

Half of the album is being streamed at Skinner’s MySpace page. Enjoy!
