Lately, it seems like creating mashups of Jay-Z tracks is the “in” thing to do. There have been some quality creations, but for the most part I’ve been left bored and uninspired. That was until I heard DJ Moondance’s Jay-Z / Dave Matthews Band mashup The Crash Album.
I’m generally not a fan of hip hop, but I can appreciate talent where it exists. While I may not consider myself a fan of Jay-Z, I respect him for his brilliant career and the way he has shaped the genre. On the other hand, I’ve been a Dave Matthews Band fan since the mid-90’s and will continue to support those guys; they were a huge part of my teenage years and will forever hold sentimental chains around my heart.
When I heard there was a mashup featuring DMB, I was definitely skeptical. It was either going to be a train wreck or a masterpice. Thankfully the latter is the case. From start to finish, it’s evident that DJ Moondance paid meticulous attention to detail. The rhymes and lyrics flow over each song as if they were created from the ground up.
The Crash Album can be streamed or downloaded for free. I highly reccommend “Jimi Boys” and “99 Crashes,” but in actuality, the entire thing is fantastic.
Thanks for this Jay Z + DMB link-up. Two of my favorites from the University years. I also like the widget for the heavy rotation. How’d you do it? Love the posts. You keep me on top of things.
