No Alternative

No AlternativeIt’s been almost 13 years since the Red Hot organization released the “No Alternative” compilation and to this day it still remains among the best charity albums to date. With contributions by some of the most seminal “alternative” artists of the time, the album is pretty easy to find. Sadly, the same can’t be said for the video version.

More than just a PSA on AIDS awareness, the “No Alternative” video featured some excellent interviews and live performances by artists involved in this project, including a stunning acoustic rendition of the track “Glynis” by The Smashing Pumpkins. If you don’t have the album, you’re missing out on some great music by other artists as well, including Nirvana (”Verse Chorus Verse”), Pavement (”Unseen Power of the Picket Fence”), Matthew Sweet (”Superdeformed”), Goo Goo Dolls (”Bitch”) and Soul Asylum (”Sexual Healing”), to name a few.

If you ever get your hands on the VHS version of this compilation, buy it, as it’s a rare collectors item!

Here’s the video of “Glynis” performed live.

great video. Although I still listen to many of the songs, I’ve all but forgotten about this compilation. Thanks for this great re-introduction.
