Wear the Music, Feel the Beat
Could it be that I’m one of the only twenty-somethings that owned, or even remembers for that matter, the wonderful little 1980’s musical piece of heaven known as the “Pocket Rocker?”
While trying to convince a friend of their existence, I stumbled across this great little site that pays homage to this glorious listening device.
I still remember the theme song, which was done to the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Down On the Corner”: Down on the corner, out in the street, pocket rockers are playing, wear the music, feel the beat.
Sadly, I can’t remember my complete discography of tapes, but I do remember owning such classics as:
- The Monkees: “Theme From ‘The Monkees’”
- Bangles: “Walk Like an Egyptian” / “Manic Monday”
- Bon Jovi: “Livin’ On a Prayer” / “Runaway”
- Huey Lewis and the News: “Doing It All For My Baby” / “Power of Love”
- Huey Lewis and the News: “Hip to Be Square” / “Heart of Rock and Roll”
- The Fat Boys”: “Wipe Out” / “Rock Ruling”
- Tom Petty: “You Want To Be a Rock ‘N Roll Star” / “Don’t Come Around Here No More”
